My Role:
UI/UX Designer
The preliminary work to gather and scope requirements for this project took over a year. I was a part of the initial team contracted to work on the project while at my previous place of employment, and even after I had left, I was contacted personally by the LexAnalytics team to help bring their solution to life.
The LexAnalytic team identified a challenge in the Nigerian legal space where lawyers reported that the knowledge and resources they needed access to were of different types which exist in silos and spread across multiple data stores. By creating a platform that not only housed these data but also provided intelligence, the team was able to produce the ultimate legal resources and analytics tool that made research and legal information analysis easy, productive, and within reach.
Lexanalytics is like having a First Class smart research assistant who can read a set of case notes and search through the entirety of the Nigerian case law database in moments and give you relevant cases both concurring and contrasting precedents, and also offer suggestions in the form of legislation or legal opinion or landmark case laws to make your research more in-depth and comprehensive.

I worked as the sole product designer on this project and liaised with a software engineering manager and chief technology officer for the technical aspect product.
I was responsible for key parts of the project such as identifying the user and functional requirements as well as depicting concepts of the solution and iterating until a final result was achieved
There is a lack of a Nigerian comprehensive, authoritative and comprehensive suite of cases, including case transcripts, extempore judgments, and legislation, delivered in a simple and accessible online format. Meanwhile, the body of law to which citizens and businesses have to adhere is subject to an exponential growth in digitization of legal documents (constantly increasing in volume and complexity). However, in recent times, courts have also been digitizing their archived cases and also making them available for e-discovery. But, these documents are usually provided by unstructured text within legal documents, for which various solutions have been developed to enable search and browsing capabilities on large legal corpora.
<aside> 🚫 Large volumes of digitized legal documents are being published in an unstructured format, therefore, making them difficult for lawyers to find.

My background in Computer Science and experience working as a software business analyst gives me an added advantage in understanding the functional complexities of the projects like this, and I am excited to assist in simplifying these complexities to levels which both businesses, design, and engineering teams can easily understand.
