My Role:

UI/UX Designer

This was my first time working as a UI/UX designer, and I remember feeling that this was what I wanted to do as a career. Prior to this, I had only worked as a Web Designer writing HTML/CSS and designing graphics in photoshop without paying mind to whether or not my work was appealing to intuitive. And then for the first time, I was presented with an opportunity to think through a process where I had to consider how the design solution would look, function and be used before it was made.

On this project, I worked with a 3-man product team to develop the user interface, evaluate UX processes and ensure that the product was developed according to functional and usability standards captured in the product requirement specifications, as well as data from the user research. I also worked closely with the development team to provide adequate guidance in the implementation of the design.

Designing uduX

Because this product held high regard when it came to user’s perception of its brand, we paid a great deal of attention to its interface design. This is one of the most exciting projects I have worked on, and indeed there was much to learn from it.

While I contributed greatly to the visual design and produced screens, graphic images, mini design system, admin dashboard, icons, and more, my favorite part of the project was the Closed-User-Group Testing.

The CUG test conducted at the release of the alpha version was aimed at collecting live user feedback from interactions on the app. I acted as the organizer and moderator of the 3-day event, where we focused on the major platforms in which the app would be available; web, android, and iOS respectively. The discussions and interviews held during this period were designed to gather information from the participants in regard to the following:

  1. Platform-specific feedback on user experience,
  2. Perception of what impressions the product has on the users,
  3. Analysis of basic usage and interaction of available features,
  4. And understanding what expectations may be in place for the features and service(s) the platform aims to provide.

User research & Usability Studies

Success criteria for the test were based on activity completion by the users and degree of satisfaction. The product team aimed to achieve this during the CUG test through the use of assistive tools. The tools referred to include;
